Purser bids to follow Gosden’s stars

 Aug 31 2017

John Gosden's 2013 winner Kingman went on the following season to finish second in the 2000 Guineas before winning four Group 1’s in a brilliant three-year-old career.

The trainer has entered Purser who runs also in Kingman’s colours of Khalid Abdullah and like Kingman runs here off the back of a debut maiden win.

The comparisons probably end there considering Kingman’s brilliant debut success but Purser still was well backed and showed plenty of ability in his Newbury win.
Purser takes a big step up and will be against some exciting two-year-olds which include Masar, Romanised and Connect.

Charlie Appleby’s Masar backed up his strong Goodwood maiden win with an excellent third in the Chesham at Royal Ascot. He pulled clear of the fourth and the son of New Approach is clearly talented and could well take some beating.

Irish raider Romanised won on debut before a close seventh in the Coventry at Royal Ascot. He was slowly away in the Group 1 Pheonix at the Curragh but made some nice late progress that suggested this extra furlong could be ideal.

The Clive Cox-trained Connect was an impressive and easy all the way winner over the track and distance on his second start in a quick time. He’s of obvious potential and is one of many from an excellent batch of juveniles for his trainer.

It’s an intriguing renewal of the Group 3 Solario Stakes, live on Sky Racing 1 on Saturday night.
