Ribchester opens Royal Ascot

 Jun 15 2017

All five days of Royal Ascot 2017 will be on Sky Thoroughbred Central with Ribchester set to get proceedings off to a flyer in the opening Group 1 contest on Tuesday night.

The star studded meeting is kicked off in spectacular fashion with the Queen Ann Stakes and the brilliant Ribchester. The Richard Fahey-trained colt is rated only below Winx in the world on turf and following a dominant victory in the Lockinge at Newbury he is sure to be a very popular favourite.

The race will also have added Australian interest with Michelle Payne over to ride the Jane Chapple-Hyam-trained outsider, Kaspersky.

US trainer Wesley Ward is back in Britain with last year’s Queen Mary winner Lady Aurelia in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes. There she will clash with Sir Mark Prescott’s brilliant sprinter Marsha.

The final Group 1 on the first day is the St James’s Palace Stakes which will see a rematch between the dual Classic winning Churchill for Ballydoyle and Godolphin’s Barney Roy, after they finished one-two in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.

It’s a superb five days of glamour and some of the world’s best racing which can be seen every night on Sky Thoroughbred Channel.
